CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 2011-2012
Thursday, September 8 Back-to-School Night: The purpose is for teachers to share programs and expectations with parents, and we ask that students and other children not attend. The evening is held in sessions to attempt to accommodate parents with students in different classes.
Wednesday, October 5 School Picture Day: Fall pictures are taken of each student, and parents may purchase various assortments if desired.
Friday, October 7 School Hearing Screening: All students in grades 1, 2, and 5, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the office.
Friday, October 21 Bishop’s Peak PTA Carnival: The Carnival is one of the most-anticipated events for children and parents alike, not only at Bishop’s Peak, but in the whole community. As one of the biggest fundraisers of the year, it supports many programs, field trips, and activities at Bishop’s Peak.
Friday, October 21 Vision Screening: All students in grades 1, 3, and 5, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the nurse in advance.
Thursday, February 16 Bishop’s Peak/Teach Science Fair: All students will participate in our school-wide science fair. Students in grades 3rd- 6th will complete at a project at home, and our kinder, first and second grade classrooms will complete a project as a class. Projects will be displayed in our library and multi-use room.
Friday, February 24 Read Across America (reading celebration): This national celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday involves a short assembly, community and parent readers in classrooms, and a whole-school gathering on the playground to read. It is a fun way to encourage and celebrate the joy of reading.
Tuesday, February 28 Dental Screening: All students in grades K, 3, and 6, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the nurse in advance.
February 29 - March 30: Kindergarten Registration and Open Enrollment window in district.
Friday, March 23 March-A-Thon: This annual fun fundraiser involves both Bishop’s Peak and Teach. The March-a-thon supplies much of the funding for field trips, assemblies, library books, playground equipment, and lots of other things provided by the PTA and Booster Club.
Tuesday, March 27 Spring Picture Day: Spring pictures packets are available for purchase to all interested parents. Pictures are only taken of students who are interested in purchasing a picture packet. A greater variety of poses and settings are available at the Spring Picture Day.
April 23 – May 11 STAR Testing Window (State testing for grade 2nd-6th)
Thursday, May 17 Bishop’s Peak Open House: Open House showcases student work for family and friends to appreciate.
Friday, June 1 Battle of the Books (Reading contest for grades 4th-6th): The Battle of the Books is an exciting culmination of a year of reading as teams of students compete by answering questions about books they have read during the year.
Friday, June 8 Games Day: Our sixth graders will put on a day of field games for all of our classrooms.
