  CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR 2008-09
Monday, August 25 Teach Ice Cream Social, 3:30 p.m.: This is an ice cream social for new Teach students and their families. This is a chance to meet other students and parents, perhaps arrange car-pooling, etc.
Monday, August 25 Kindergarten Tea/Welcome – 2:00 p.m.: This is a welcome and orientation meeting for kindergarten students and their parents. This is a chance to meet the teachers and see the classrooms. We ask that you help make this a special day for our kindergarten students by not bringing siblings or other children.
Tuesday, August 26 BP Parent Coffee in Library: This is a welcome and chance for parents to get acquainted and reacquainted after the summer.
Friday, August 29 Innisbrook Fundraiser Begins (Wrapping Paper and Gifts): This is an annual fundraiser for both schools which provides a substantial amount of the budget needed to support field and study trips and other school events and PTA/Booster Club programs.
Thursday, September 4 Back-to-School Night: The purpose is for teachers to share programs and expectations with parents, and we ask that students and other children not attend. The evening is held in sessions to attempt to accommodate parents with students in different classes.
Wednesday, September 24 School Picture Day: Fall pictures are taken of each student, and parents may purchase various assortments if desired.
Thursday, September 25 School Hearing Screening: All students in grades 1, 2, and 5, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the nurse in advance.
Friday, October 3 Bishop’s Peak PTA Carnival: The Carnival is one of the most-anticipated events for children and parents alike, not only at Bishop’s Peak, but in the whole community. As one of the biggest fundraisers of the year, it supports many programs, field trips, and activities at Bishop’s Peak. Tuesday, October 28 Vision Screening: All students in grades 1, 3, and 5, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the nurse in advance.
Thursday, November 20 TE Variety Show: Our Variety Shows take place every other year—2008-09 is one of those years! The Variety Show is an opportunity for students to share their talents with the school community.

Thursday, February 12 Dental Screening: All students in grades K, 2, 4, and 6, as well as other students referred by teachers are screened. Parents may request that their child not be screened by submitting a letter to the nurse in advance.
Friday, February 27 Read Across America (reading celebration): This national celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday involves a short assembly, community and parent readers in classrooms, and a whole-school gathering on the playground to read. It is a fun way to encourage and celebrate the joy of reading.
Monday, March 16 Spring Pictures:  Spring pictures packets are available for purchase to all interested parents. Pictures are only taken of students who are interested in purchasing a picture packet. A greater variety of poses and settings are available at the Spring Picture Day.
Friday, March 27 March-A-Thon: This annual fun fundraiser involves both Bishop’s Peak and Teach. The March-a-thon supplies much of the funding for field trips, assemblies, library books, playground equipment, and lots of other things provided by the PTA and Booster Club.
Thursday, March 19 TE Open House and Prospective Parent Night: Open House showcases student work and opens the classrooms to existing and prospective parents. Prospective Parent Night is held the same evening with an assembly introducing the Teach program to potential parents and students.
April 20 – May 18 STAR Testing Window (State testing for grade 2nd-6th)
Thursday, May 21 BP Open House: Open House showcases student work for family and friends to appreciate.
Friday, June 5 Battle of the Books (Reading contest for grades 4th-6th): The Battle of the Books is an exciting culmination of a year of reading as teams of students compete by answering questions about books they have read during the year.
